MAXIMUM SPEED

The maximum speed of the ball can be found with minimal steps, since we already have a lot of the information needed. I know that the maximum speed occurs just before the football is caught by my partner, because gravity continues to accelerate the ball. The football will be going the fastest right before that point. This means that in order to find the maximum speed, we must take the final horizontal velocity, and the final vertical velocity (see Velocity & Components), and apply Pythagorean Theorem to find the actual final velocity of the ball, which will be the maximum speed.

Therefore th Maximum Speed of th football is 10.1m/s.

Maximum Speed occurs just before the ball is caught by my partner, because gravity countines to accelerate the ball.
